    Richmond A Festival 16 March 08

The Richmond Festival turned out to be a wet, muddy and cold affair that was exciting and enjoyable.

Cobham Under 7 Jets played really well and won a shield for coming runners-up in the Bowl.  They played well as a team against some highly competitive opposition, in some difficult conditions. After a slow start against Bishop's Stortford and losing on the last play of the game, Cobham then went down to the eventual winners, Richmond, 8-5. After losing their first two matches, the Jets came back strongly to remain unbeaten from that point showing great character following the early diappointments. Results:

Against Bishops Stortford we lost 4-5.  Tries scored by Matthew Evans (3) and Tom Hartley.
Against Richmond we lost 8-5.  Tries scored by Gwilym Bradley (2), James Gardner and Ben Bayly (2).
Against Dorking we won 6-3.  Tries scored by Elliott Richmond-Smith (2), James Gardner (2), Matthew Evans and Tom Williams.
Against Amersham we drew 3-3.  Tries scored by Tom Hartley, Matthew Evans and Adam Koep.
Against Bridgend we won 5-4.  Tries scored by Adam Koep, Matthew Evans, Tom Hartley, Gwilym Bradley and Tom Williams

Matthew Evans received the shield at the presentation on behalf of the squad, and all members received a medal. The Richmond coach commented afterwards that the Richmond match against Cobham was their hardest game, the score flattering the home team. After a close match, Richmond scored a couple of tries in the closing stages to widen the final margin.

It is evident that the squad is preparing for future full rugby matches as is evidenced by Tom Williams who, after going across the try-line to score, and to the delight of the crowd, proceeded to run to the middle of the in-goal area before putting the ball down. Why did he do this? In his words "to make the conversion easier"!.

Squad: Bayly, Bradley, Evans, Gardner, Hartley, Koep, Matthews, McCallum, Richmond-Smith, Williams.
