Land Development Goals

The Covenham Grounds

It has always been a challenge to cope with a growing number of players, from Mini through Youth to Seniors when it comes to Rugby, the expanding Tennis Club, for the burgeoning Lacrosse Club and with the welcome return of Netball to Fairmile Lane.

The first giant leap was the building of the magnificent new clubhouse - The Peter Marsh Pavilion - which formally opened in September 2008. We then added more hard court surface for multi use allowing Tennis and Netball which was a welcome addition to the facilities at Fairmile Lane. However with only 3 effective grass pitches getting over-used it became somewhat of a priority to find alternative grounds.

That search came to fruition with the announcement on 9th May 2011 that the land development team ably led by Steve Robinson had secured terms for Cobham Sports to use the former golf driving range behind the Fairmile public House off the Portsmouth Road – a few hundred metres from our existing facilities – and double the number of grass pitches available to Cobham Sports members.

Naturally the conversion from somewhat run down driving range to top notch pitches will take some time before they will be ready, but what a welcome step forward this will be for all at Cobham Sports Association.

A significant amount of effort has been put into this project, assessing options, considering plans and then making it all happen. Our collective thanks to all who have been involved from within the club. In addition Miles Unwin from Mundays, the solicitors and our long standing Principal Club Sponsor, should be congratulated for all the time and effort he has put in to getting the project to the watertight conclusion we now have.

Thank you to all.
