Welcome to one of the largest and most exciting Mini Rugby groups in the country, sponsored by Savills.
Introduction to Cobham Rugby Mini Section
The Mini’s section of Cobham has around 450 boys and girls aged between 4 and 12 enjoying, learning and competing in the game of rugby. From the start, at U5, where the children learn their skills with a sponge ball, venturing into competitive tag rugby at U7, contact at U9 and then finishing the mini’s at the end of U12 having been fully prepared to move onto youth rugby.
We stand at a very exciting time in our club’s history with new pitches at the Covenham Grounds being prepared for this season and significant development work going into the Memorial Grounds in improving the playing areas. This investment in the future of our club will make a marked difference in the enjoyment of rugby for our young players.
The new and improved facilities will mean that training for the U5 to U10 age groups will be held at the club’s Memorial Grounds off Fairmile Lane in Cobham on Sunday’s from 9.30am. The U5’s finish at 11am, U6’s at 11.30am and all other age groups finish by 12.00pm.
The U11’s and U12’s will train on the new Covenham Grounds on Sundays from 10am.
The club is open to all players, both boys and girls of all abilities, from keen novices to potential internationals. Our objective is to instill in our players confidence, determination and self-belief while developing agility, skills, fitness, teamwork and discipline both on and off the field. We aim to encourage players to perform at the best of their abilities, to be gracious in victory, magnanimous in defeat and respectful to the officials, the opposition and their teammates.
We work hard to ensure that all players from under U7 upwards and across the ability range have the opportunity of participating in competitive rugby including hosting home festivals and fixtures as well as attending away fixtures as guests of clubs in the surrounding area. The older age groups and parents also get the opportunity to go on tour for a long weekend, which is always a highlight of the season.
We take the protection and safety of our players very seriously with a graduated introduction and development of the game and ensure that all on-field helpers are CRB checked and suitably qualified personnel.
All of our players are fortunate enough to be supported by a large selection of keen and committed volunteers who form the network of qualified head coaches, coaches, managers, first aiders and helpers. Cobham has a strong family and community focused ethos, which has served our club well as we have gone from strength to strength both on and off the sporting field. At times the focus does shift from the younger members to the not so young and we have a social calendar that takes in many different activities with the highlight being the summer ball.
We proudly bear the Savills logo and are hugely indebted to Savills for all they do to help us develop our young Cobham players.
I look forward to welcoming you and your youngsters to Cobham in the coming season.
