BRAEMAR CUP RULES 2011

General

1.                  Eligibility to play will be determined by the age of the player at midnight on 31st August/1st September 2011.

2.                  Any team found with an unregistered (therefore uninsured) player or one out of applicable Continuum age group will be disqualified.

3.                  Team Managers, coaches and players should be familiar with the Code of Conduct posted on the Cobham RFC web site (http://www.cobhamrfc.com/one-two).

4.                  By entering this tournament parents and guardians implicitly agree and accept that: a) photographs and images may be taken of their child during the normal course of rugby activity by accredited photographers and/or other parents and guardians; b) the images may be used in the local press or in club publicity in line with RFU guidelines for the welfare of young people in Rugby Union.

5.                  All disputes will be resolved by the Chairman whose decision and ruling shall be final.

 

Scoring

1.                   Match Points will be based on tries and conversions only with 5 points being awarded for each try scored and 2 points being awarded for each conversion scored.

2.                   In order to speed play, all conversions must be drop goals not place kicks.

3.                   Matches must be brought to an end if the points’ difference rises to 30 points or more.

 

Tournament Format

1.                   The eight teams have been drawn into two Pools of four teams. Details of the each pool and the teams are set out in the Programme.

2.                   Following completion of the Pool matches the tournament will conclude with a knock out competition ending in Cup and Plate Finals.

 

Pool Phase

1.                   Each team will play the other three teams in its Pool.

2.                   Each team will be awarded Pool Points, 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. In all Pool and Knock-out Phase matches conversions will be by drop kick only.

3.                   The teams in each Pool will be ranked by the number of Pool Points awarded – the team with the highest number of points will be ranked highest in the Pool.

4.                   If at the end of the Pool phase two or more teams are tied the following process is used to determine the ranking:

a.       The margin of match points scored for and against in all Pool matches (highest margin – highest ranking);

b.       The number of match points scored in the Pool matches (highest points – highest ranking);

c.       The result of the pool match between those two teams;

d.       If a tie remains the teams will be ranked by a toss of a coin.

Knock Out Phase

1.                   If the score is level at the end of a semi final or Plate the steps outlined in 4) a - d above.

2.                   If the score is level at the end of the Cup final the teams will be declared joint winners.

 

Squad Size Substitutes and Match Durations

1.                   Squads to consist of thirteen players, and a maximum of five substitutes.

2.                   All substitutions must be with the referee’s knowledge and either made when the ball is dead or at half time. Substituted players can be re-used during that game, unless replaced at the referee’s request.

3.                   Matches to be seven minutes each way, no extra time. All matches will have a two minute interval at half time.

 

RFU Recommendations

1.              Cobham RFC strongly supports the RFU recommendation that mouth guards are mandatory.

2.              In the interest of safety please also ensure that all boots are fitted with safety studs, a check will be carried out before the start of the first games.

3.              Team Managers and Coaches are also reminded of the RFU recommendations that children should not be overplayed. To this end the tournament rules allow for larger squad sizes.
