MINI RUGBYSeason 2011-12 Welcome to one of the largest and most exciting Mini Rugby groups in the country, sponsored by Savills. Introduction to Cobham Rugby Mini Section The Mini’s section of Cobham is one of the largest mini’s rugby groups in the country. We have over 450 boys and girls aged between 4 and 12 enjoying, learning and competing in the game of rugby. From the start, at U5, where the children learn their skills with a sponge ball, venturing into competitive tag rugby at U7, contact at U9 and then finishing the mini’s and being fully prepared at U12 to move onto youth rugby. During the season, we train at the club’s Fairmile Lane ground in Cobham on Sunday’s from 10am. The U5’s finish at 11am, U6’s at 11.30am and all other age groups finish at 12.00pm. (Click here to see latest fixtures schedule) We take the protection and safety of our players very seriously with a graduated introduction and development of the game and ensure that all on-field helpers are CRB checked and suitably qualified personnel. The club is open to all players, both boys and girls of all abilities, from keen novices to potential internationals. Our objective is to instill in our players confidence, determination and self belief while developing agility, skills, fitness, team work and discipline both on and off the field. We aim to encourage players to perform at the best of their abilities, to be gracious in victory, magnanimous in defeat and respectful to the officials, the opposition and their team mates. We work hard to ensure that all players from under U7 upwards and across the ability range have the opportunity of participating in competitive rugby including hosting home festivals and fixtures as well as attending away fixtures as guests of clubs in the surrounding area. The older age groups and parents also get the opportunity to go on tour for a long weekend which is always a highlight of the season. All of our players are fortunate enough to be supported by a large selection of keen and committed volunteers who form the network of qualified head coaches, coaches, managers, first aiders and helpers. Cobham has a strong family and community focused ethos which has served our club well as we have gone from strength to strength both on and off the sporting field. At times the focus does shift from the younger members to the not so young and we have a social calendar that takes in many different activities with the highlight being the summer ball where some 500 people congregate to have an exceptionally good evening wining and dining into the early hours. We proudly bear the Savills logo and are hugely indebted to Savills for all they do to help us develop our young Cobham players. We stand at a very exciting time in the development of our club and I look forward to welcoming you and your youngsters to Cobham in the coming season.
