The A’s Squad

We started the season well with very little cricket rust from the summer holidays and the boys ought to be commended in their ability to switch back into rugby mode so quickly. We’ve also seen lots of competition for places and expect to see more during the rest of the season. So far 17 boys have played for the A team in a festival.

Our home festival was our first and very early in the season. We faced some very tough opposition but we played some excellent running rugby especially against a well-balanced strong running Guilford in the final. Our defense was exceptional, and it was this facet of our play that gave us our edge. We didn’t concede a try all day!

Cobham Festival Knock out

CFRC 1– Effingham 0 , CFRC 3 - Battersea 0,  CRFC 4 - Camberley 0 , Final - Guildford 3-0

The following week had us playing at Reeds. We won the final again: it was a tough day with lots of very good clubs. We won in the final against a strong Reeds side and some of our running and passing in the earlier games was jaw dropping. I especially think Richmond must have had a shock as we played good heads up rugby. I still pitty the organizer would decide to hoist all 8 stone of Marcus as part of the presentation to the winners.

Reeds Knock out

CRFC 5 - Rich 0, CRFC 1 - Sutton 1, Farnham 1 - CRFC 3,

Semi's Chobham 3 - CRFC 5, Final Reeds 0 - CRFC 1

The third festival in three weeks was a little too much for us. However we started well and despite having a few players missing we acquitted our selves well. Our defence was still impressive but we played in fits and starts and possibly not with the width and running lines of the previous weeks. We lost one game but a series of draws put us fourth in the league.

Chobham league format

Cobham 7 King's 1, Cobham 4 Tonbridge Juddians 0, Cobham 3 Guildford 3 Cobham 0 Reeds 2, Cobham 0 Chobham 0

After a couple weeks of focused training we hit the Sutton and Epson festival running. Again we faced high quality opponents; again the quality of our running, support play, game sense and sheer bravery was exceptional. The best try against Sutton started with a try saving tackle on our line, strong counter ruck, deft passing, tackling breaking running, unselfish offloads, great support running and the end result an end to end move the AB’s would be proud of.

Sutton – League format

 CRFC 6 - Brighton 0, CRFC 2 - Reeds 0, CFRC 3 - Sutton 0, Rosslyn Park 1-1;

Camberley A Festival 11th March 2012

This festival was run on a league format, playing all of the teams at the festival.  The A teams results were as follows:

CRFC 2 -  Camberley 0

CRFC 2 - Farnham 0

CRFC 4 - Chobham 1

CRFC 1 - Wimbledon 0

CRFC 4 - Guildford 0

After such great results it was fitting that the A team were the clear winners of the U10's  Cup.  A lovely day in the sunshine and some fantastic rugby from the boys.

Effingham A Festival 25th  March 2012

This festival was run on a 2 pool format, with semis and a final.  The results were as follows:

CRFC 2 - Effingham 0

CFRC 4 - Richmond 0

CRFC 3 - Farnham 1

Semi Final CRFC 3 - Guildford 1

Cup Final CRFC 2 - Effingham 4

So cup runners up for Cobham this week.

B Squad

We have a lot of excellent players in the squad – as proof Simon keeps stealing them – and we are seeing lots of positive development. We are very competitive at every festival (see results) and the boys are really enjoying them selves. We are playing with very much a squad rotating – 18 players have played in a B festival so far.

Have great great holiday boys!

Upminster B Festival - 25th March 2012

Cobham 2 - Upminster 0

Cobham 5  - Westcliffe 0

Cobham 5  - Baintree 0

Cobham 2 - Sevenoaks 0

Final:  Cobham 2 - Bishop Stortford 0

C Squads

The C's competed at the London Irish Festival on Sunday March 18th.  We came third out of six.  medals all round!!

All aspects of our game has improved including tackling but we are far too polite around the base of a ruck!  We need a greater sense of urgency and KNOW we CAN ruck over the ball and player.

Cobham - Teddington Drew

Cobham - Battersea lost 4-1 (first game)

Cobham - London Welsh - Drew 5-5

Cobham - Reeds lost 3-4

Cobham - London Irish Drew

We have a talented team here and it will improve further once they play together a bit more.  At times everyone played their best rugby; we just need to become more consistent.  Everyone turned up on time so we could warm up together for the first game.  Thank you all.

Man of the festival was Oliver Cox he played so well even after he was injured!  Well done.  I would also like to mention Marcus H-P as he listened to what was asked of him and improved greatly throughout the day.

Paddy

In the London Irish D Festival the results were;

Cobham 3-0 Teddington (W)

Cobham 2-1 Battersea (W)

Cobham 1-2 London Welsh (L)

Cobham 3-0 London Irish (W)

The Cobham team were the Barbarians and they won a closely contested festival on try difference.  Well done everyone!!
