U10 Home Page2010/11 Season Hi All As you are probably aware, training for the 2010 / 11 season starts tomorrow from 10am to 12. We have been allocated the same section of the pitch as last year, ie the top half of the 2nd team pitch, closest to the Portsmouth Road. Welcome to all the new lads and looking forward to meeting you all and seeing all the old familiar faces again. Please click here and take time to read and familiarise yourself with the important infomation for parents leaflet. The kit should be available at the shop but see below a note from John which covers everything you need to know. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me on 07809600410 or by email. See you on the side lines Kind regards Caroline and Claire **************** We are really looking forward to the start of the new season in welcoming back our players and in welcoming new players who are joining the club for the first time.At U10 the only change to the game we played at U9 is the introduction of contested scrums and line-outs. This introduces a level of technicality which was previously absent and we will focus on this from the outset giving all players exposure to this new challenge. We will continue to emphasise and work on developing skills, agility, fitness, awareness and team work while all the time focusing on developing player maturity, integrity, good sportsmanship and self confidence. By way of kit, boots are as important as ever. We would prefer if all players wear proper rugby boots. Football boots are not permitted especially where they have steel capped studs. We would also discourage the use of blades as they do not offer the same performance or protection of a proper rugby boot. A further aspect to remember is that wearing boots while walking across concrete or tar results in scuffing and damage to the suds which in turn makes them sharp and can lead to cuts. To avoid this, players should wear trainers to rugby and change into their boots on the field. Given the elevation to contested scrums etc in U10, we will need to inspect boots more regularly ensuring the right boots are worn as well as checking for stud damage that could be dangerous. The club has also made Munroe House a no-go area if wearing boots for obvious reasons. As you will know, mouth guards are mandatory which can be arranged either through the club or by buying a good brand of malleable mouth guard such as Shock Doctor or equivalent. We require all players to have a training jersey as well as their club jersey for every training day as this allows us to distinguish players and sides. The training jerseys can be of any colour or make, preferably not the same colour as the Cobham rugby jersey and preferably a rugby jersey not a T shirt! The fixture schedule for this year is up on the club website. You will note that we have reduced the overall number of festivals somewhat given the congestion in the schedule last season. As an age group we are responsible for arranging the tour at the end of the season. Like last year, this will again be to Brean Sands and will take place on the weekend of 29th April to 2nd May. Last year was huge success which I would very much like our players to have the chance of experiencing again. There will be more on this later. Regards John
