U11 Etihad Cup Semi-finals 06-03-10
U11s are through to the Finals.....
Cobham U11’s made it through to the finals of the ETIHAD competition by winning all their pool games at the semi finals today. Congratulations to everyone in the team – each one of the boys played with such passion and commitment.
With a number of players being unavailable due to school matches, the A team was different from that which secured our place in the semis back in December. Will Ellis, Will Stephen, Alex Hand and Rory Barry all stepped up and gave excellent performances. It is s sign of Cobham U’11’s strength in depth that we were able to put together such a strong side, even when so many were unavailable. With only 12 players up to the time our third game started, we were playing without substitutes for our first two games, but fortunately did not need any – everyone played on, even those carrying injuries. A big thanks to Joe Jelinek and Rory O’Neill for coming to the tournament after school sports and allowing some substitution in the last game.
Out first game against Teddington was undoubtedly our toughest. We won by scoring in the last play of the game. We may well meet Teddington again in the finals on May 8th since they were the other team that qualified from our pool. Edenbridge and Tunbridge Wells, although still very good sides, were less of a challenge for us as we had improved both our rucking and tackling. We beat them 5 – 0 and 3 – 0 respectively.
So, overall, an excellent performance evidenced by the score line total 9 tries for, none against. This was a brave performance in which many players excelled themselves and raised their game to meet the challenge. One of our bravest was Will Stephen who received a nasty stud cut on his ear whilst attacking the opposition line a few minutes before the end of the final game against Tunbridge Wells.
