U11C Team Match Report – Guildfordians Festival 4th Oct 09

Quite a pleasing but tough first festival for the C Team boys, particularly as around half the team were either new to Cobham or the C Team selection and the Festival is badged as a B / C festival.

Playing as a new team as well as 5 half time subs was probably a small achilles heel which reduced as the festival progressed and the boys confidence and familiarity quickly grew.

The boys did a lot of good things pretty well, in particular everybody tackling resulting in very few tries being conceded.

Scrummaging was a clear strength winning all our own ball as well as a number of turnovers.

Overall 5 tries were conceded in 4 hard fought games, essentially narrowly defeated in 3 games and a draw in the other. Tries were hard to come by for Cobham, which has to be a focus in terms of quicker recycling and more direct, committed and harder/aggressive running.

A few deserving mentions are as follows:-

Rhino for his energy, aggression, determination and enthusiasm

Very good defence and tackling from all, but notably, Samuel K, Michael, James, Hicky and Jack

Solid forward play by Oscar, Ryan and new forwards Jordan, Aiden and Peter.

The scrum halfs in Alec and Matthew gave pretty good service, whilst Sam H, Guy and Oliver tended our wings and full back positions to good effect

I think a special mention to Ollie S who had a couple of quiet games on the wing, who came into his own at fly half in the last game making some excellent runs, good passing and scoring a well deserved debut appearance try.

Well done to all; definitely have our opportunity to build upon our progressive performance new weekend at the Battersea fixture.
