The RFU ELRA Referees Course will take place at Cobham RFC over 4 evenings when available.
The ELRA (Entry Level Referee Award) not only offers an outstanding introduction to refereeing a game of rugby union equipping you with the skills and confidence to do so effectively, it will also refresh and update those who may have done a referees course some time ago. (Laws and the interpretation of them change frequently!) The ELRA is recognized by the RFU as a formal refereeing qualification.
The course is run by Bob Ockenden from the RFU. It is really enjoyable and all the coaches who took part last year found it extremely beneficial to their overall understanding of the game. It is a mix of classroom and pitch work. There is some testing to be done but please don’t be put off by the ‘exam’ element; it’s all very relaxed.
The course is open to all ~ men, women and young people aged 14 and over. You don’t have to be a coach ~ just someone with a love of rugby who’s keen to get involved. We offer a support structure of mentoring, monitoring and encouraging you and we hold Referee Education Evenings where the RFU come down to the club and focus on a particular element of the game in depth or whatever you wish to discuss, in order to broaden your knowledge and clarify ambiguous situations you may come across on the pitches!

We need a minimum number of 12 to run the course and a maximum of 24 can attend. Closing date for this course. All those who participate in refereeing at Cobham RFC will have to be CRB checked through the club.
