    U7 MINI RUGBY REPORTS

Cobham Mini B Festival October 7th

The U7 Rockets played their first ever festival today and were worthy runners up, winning silver medals.

    U7 Rockets

Pool Matches: Cobham 4 - 4 Old Reedonians

The Rockets got off to a great start with good tagging from Matthew. Reeds got ahead then came a fantastic run and great try by Tom P with good supporting running from Oscar. It was an evenly matched game with Reeds scoring again, then both Adam and Harry D-M were unlucky not to both get tries before the half time whistle. Allesandro got the second half off to a terrific start scoring immediately, then once again Reeds pulled one back. With great fluid team play, getting tagged but passing well, Adam scored, Reeds scored their Fourth and Cobham’s Matthew got the final try to end the game 4-4.

    Cobham 3 – 0 Effingham & Leatherhead

In an exciting game, with much encouragement from the parents running the line, Allesandro scored first. Lucas did some great defensive tagging, Cobham won the ball back and Oscar went over to score the 2nd try. Then followed a solid run from Alex passing to Adam who unluckily got tagged just before the line. He came back with vengeance scoring the 3rd try. Antony put in a determined run and passed well. Allesandro ran over a fourth try at the end of the game. Bizarrely both team coaches agreed the final score to be 4-0 but the ref made it 3-0. We scored four times and topped the group.

    Semi-final: Cobham 3 – 2 Aldershot

A very tight game with great support from the parents! Adam scored first, then Aldershot got one back. Thomas E then made a storming run and scored. Great defensive tagging from Tom P and Adam and Lukas prevented Aldershot drawing even just before half time. In the second half, Alex Davies made a dart and scored the third. With Aldershot in possession, there followed great tagging from Oscar, Harry and Antony before they finally managed to bring one back to 3-2.

    Final: Cobham 2 – 4 Teddington

The Rockets met a strong Teddington side in the final and performed exceedingly well rising to the challenge. Exciting runs from Oscar and Alex nearly led to tries, but the Teddington defence was too strong. With Teddington leading 2 -0, Matthew made a great long run and scored. The level of tagging on both sides was very high and Teddington again pulled ahead 3-1. Adam then ran the length of the pitch to score an amazing solo effort but Teddington acted swiftly and even with some great tagging from the whole of the Rockets, they managed to get a final try to win 4-2.

So, the Cobham U7 Rockets finished as runners up, but more importanatly, they played well as a team and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
