Cobham RFC ~ Nando’s 10’s Youth Festival
Tournament Rules
The tournament will be played in accordance with the Laws of the Game of Rugby Football as framed by the International Rugby Board and adopted by the Rugby Football Union, with the following amendments:
1) The format of the Tournament is a knock out cup competition for teams in the following age groups: U.13, U.14, U.15 and U.16.
2) Each side shall comprise 10 players selected from a team of a maximum of 17 players who must all be registered with the organiser of the Tournament before the start of play.
3) It is mandatory that there is compliance with the Laws of the Game which states that ‘a minimum of five players from each team shall be required to form a scrummage’ at all times.
4) The duration of all games except the finals will be 10 minutes each way with a two-minute interval. The finals will be 12 minutes each way with a three-minute interval.
5) Rolling substitutes are allowed at any time during the match, from within the team of 17 players.
6) Any player yellow carded will spend 3 (three) minutes off the field of play.
7) Any player sent off (red carded) by a referee, will not play again in the Tournament.
8) Referees may use their discretion and require the substitution of a player for disciplinary reasons – any player substituted may not return to the field in the game that he has been substituted in but may participate in subsequent games.
9) All kick offs and restarts will be by drop kick. The scoring side shall take restarts following a try. Drop goals and penalty goals are not allowed.
10) All conversions shall be by drop goal and shall be taken from in front of the posts. Defending sides are not required to retire behind their own goal line, provided they do not impede the kicker. Attempts to charge down any conversions can only be made by players who have first retired behind the posts.
11) In the first stage of the competition all teams in their respective age groups will play each other. A win will yield 2 points, a draw 1 point, a loss 0 points. At the end of the first stage all points will be added up and teams ranked 1st to 4th based on total number of league points. In case of a tie, the following methods will be used to break the tie between 2 or more sides (in order): total number of tries scored, total points scored, points difference (total number of points scored minus total number of points conceded).
12) First and second teams in each age group will compete for the cup. Third and fourth teams in each age group will compete for the plate.
13) For finals only (cup & plate): when there is a tie at full time, there will be a ‘sudden death’ play off and extra time will be played. Such extra time will be in 2 periods of five minutes when teams will change end without an interval. The side which first kicked off, will do so in the first period of extra time, and kicking-off subsequently, as required, will alternate between the sides. The team first scoring points in extra time will be declared the winner and the game will end.
14) In the unlikely event of no score in extra time (cup & plate) the winner will be decided on total number of points scored in the tournament.
