Cobham Under 18 B / A side - Match Report vs Effingham
October 24th 2010
Effingham 24 pts Cobham 31 pts
A friendly against Effingham in the sunshine was just the perfect way to start the season, a bit late perhaps, but the lads have been busy (driving tests, UCAS forms, studying etc…)
A well refereed, free-flowing and balanced game of rugby was produced which just went the way of Cobham who won scoring 5 tries to 3.
A few late changes to the side meant we had Bliss appearing as a non-rucking hooker (try saying that quickly!), Philip in most positions, McCallum in the centre and we welcomed back Mays after a long injury break to play in the unfamiliar No. 8 position.
Cobham had the better of the first half, scoring tries through Philip, after a tremendous run down the wing and McCallum from short range. Effingham came back with a penalty and a try following a loose pass, but Cobham conjured 2 good team tries before the break.
The first came following a run and link from Sam Wood, followed by good inter-passing between forwards and backs before Ed Jones beat off his would-be tackler and raced under the posts. The second started with Max Peacock stealing a line-out ball, then the forwards driving on before Ryan Saunders released the backs and good passing gave Peter Saunders room to score a well worked try in the corner.
The second half started well for Cobham with another good passing move providing space for the electric Sharpe to score before Effingham took control of the latter stages of the game as tiredness took hold. Effingham scored 2 tries in the last 10 minutes but Cobham were able to close out the game.
Our thanks to Effingham for providing good opposition and a thoroughly enjoyable game.
