London Welsh 7 Cobham 32
31st October 2010
On a wet Sunday morning Cobham played an entertaining friendly away at London Welsh. Due to County and school trip commitments, plus a couple of long term injuries, we only had 14 players and were grateful to London Welsh for lending us a couple of players, both of whom played very well.
It was also great to see Connor Jones back although he missed the first period. During the first half playing some great running rugby, Cobham were able to take a grip on the game with tries from fly half Jack Westmoreland Burns (2), Cragg playing on the left wing and scoring in the right hand corner, and Sam January roaring up in support of Eddie Jones and Pete Saunders to score his first of the season. Eddie Jones was then able score a fifth after Jonah Lomu look-alike Olly Mays playing on the right wing off-loaded to put Eddie clear.
After half time playing with 14 due to a couple of knocks, Cobham were pinned back by a very spirited performance by London Welsh who deserved more than their one converted try. Slowly as the half progressed Cobham were able to gain a foothold in the London Welsh half and that man Jack Westmoreland Burns now playing on the left wing showed his pace and side step to complete the scoring and his hat trick.
A special mention to the forwards Max Peacock, Rhys Davis, Alex VaaVaa and the others who did the hard work to create the platform for the backs to do their thing.
An enjoyable morning was complete with his Garry celebrating the hat-trick by buying the beers.
Well done to all and thanks to London Welsh for organising the game, lending us a couple of players and creating the right atmosphere for a friendly that both sides needed.
